December goals.

Who writes goals a month before the New Year?

Apparently a lot of people.

But I get it – it’s a satisfying feeling to start off a new year knowing you’ve accomplished exactly as you wanted the past month rather than hoping you’d accomplish alllll these things for the next year.

(We all know how well those New Year’s Resolutions stick.)

So here it is, my December goals:

  • Finish Yellow by Frank Wu.
  • Finish Black Swan by Nassim Nicholas Taleb.
  • Do a 6 mile run once a week.
  • Picture book.

I used to be a big fan of the under-promise, overachieve outlook, but then I realized that by holding myself to lower standards, it was making me under-perform.

Let’s get out of the rut for 2016, but until then, I have December to think about.

Dear APA 15,

Wow.

Thank you God for blessing me with such a loving and beautiful community. Where I can feel safe to talk about how I’m feeling, without worrying about judgement and knowing I’d be received by loving arms.

Story. Power. Advocacy.

Last year, APA 14 “Made Well” marked the beginning of a rather tumultuous year for me.

In that past year was a lot of questions and anger – definitely plenty of anger and confusion and sadness and anger.

But also lots of thankfulness,

reflection,

& so much love,

& so much prayer.

Dear J^3,

I’m someone who really enjoys baking for others. It’s therapeutic, relaxing, and rewarding. But I’m not something that receives a lot of baked good presents as often.

When the three of you made brownies for me, I felt so happy. I remember our first time baking together – and exactly how cray that went. You have all come a long way and I truly appreciate the ways that you all have loved me.

Thank you for being so understanding and for accepting me for the rather loud and overly excited person I like to be.

Thank God for you guys because you are all my blessings.

Love da girl,

Carrie

Dear B,

You are a solid photon – you light up my life like nobOdy else.

Thanks for sticking it through with me in all the terribly sucky times and for rejoicing with me when I’m happy. I get nervous telling people some jokes sometimes but even if it’s a bad joke I know it’s ok to tell them to you.

THE MARGINAL RETURNS OF HANGING OUT WITH YOU WILL NEVER DECREASE.

Luv,

Carrie

ps. Boom, nailed it.
